4.3Positives: The Mahindra XEV 9e features a 79kWh battery pack that powers a single rear-axle-mounted motor, delivering 282bhp and 380Nm of torque. It can accelerate from zero to 100kmph in just 6.8 seconds (claimed figures). During our drives, the performance was strong and responsive, with the combination of drive modes, one-pedal driving, and regen levels helping to tweak it further. The 180kW DC fast charger can juice it up from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in 20 minutes, while the 7.2kW and 11.2kW AC fast chargers take 8 hours and 11 hours 42 minutes to charge it from zero to 100 per cent, respectively. It has a claimed driving range of 656km (ARAI certified range figures). It gets five drive modes in Default, Range, Race, Snow, and Everyday and five levels of regenerative braking that can be controlled via paddle shifters. We tested this version, and the ride quality was slightly firm, but still absorbent over rough roads and bumps. The high ground clearance of 207mm also improves its capability of handling rougher terrains. Negatives: The rear visibility is quite poor and affects driving confidence, even the front visibility is not particularly great.
