Tata Sierra

We tested the 1.5-litre Kryojet diesel-automatic (six-speed TC) version of the Tata Sierra. This engine configuration makes 116bhp/260Nm and can also be had with a six-speed manual gearbox. This powertrain is smooth and responsive in the low-end, with a wide torque-spread to make everyday drives effortless. While the gearbox isn't the quickest, it's predictable and calibrated for city usage. The relaxed engine-gearbox mannerisms also suit the calm, touring-focused driving style. The NVH in city speeds and cruising has improved compared to other Tatas, but a hum stays in the background. It only becomes apparent when pushed, but the diesel-automatic powertrain maintains its refinement during most of the city drives and highway cruising. Its ride quality is on the firmer end due to its 19-inch alloys, smaller tyres might have made the ride feel plushier. As for the handling and stability, the steering feels a bit stiff at both low and high speeds, but it stays planted when pushed with plenty of mechanical grip. There's still a bit of body roll while taking corners at highway speeds, but the Sierra always feels safe and composed. Inside, the new Sierra boasts ventilated front seats, new upholstery, 360-degree camera, and triple 12.3-inch displays on the top variants. It is already equipped with key features, including a huge 1525mm x 925mm electric sunroof, connected car technology, and memory function for the driver’s seat. It gets a 12-speaker JBL sound system with Dolby Atmos, with the highlight being a dashboard-integrated sound bar to improve the acoustics while enjoying music in the Sierra. The new grille features a large black insert. Upfront, the new Sierra gets the latest Tata grille, slim LED headlamps, and the latest Tata logo. The side is the major highlight thanks to the design of the alloy wheels and the modern interpretation of the iconic Alpine glass roof. Towards the rear, the Sierra gets new taillights, spoiler, and powered tailgate to give that iconic Sierra stance. The lower variants feature a two-screen setup as well. The Sierra received a five-star rating in the BNCAP crash safety tests. Tata had also showcased a moving vehicle collision with two Sierra SUVs to highlight how it behaves in real-world scenarios. It has been fitted with a Level 2 ADAS system with 22 features, a 360-degree camera, speed alert system, ABS with EBD, and a seat-belt reminder system as standard. The Tata Sierra also gets a 1.5-litre four-cylinder Revotron naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine option. It produces 105bhp of power and 145Nm of torque. It can be had with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT (dubbed DCA by Tata) gearboxes. The Tata Sierra can be had with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol Hyperion engine that makes 158bhp of power and 255Nm of torque. As for the gearbox, it features only a six-speed torque converter (TC) automatic gearbox, no manual option is available for this trim.
