Petrol
4.1Positives: This 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine makes 82bhp and 113.8Nm and is offered with either a five-speed manual or an AMT transmission. The petrol engine in the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is one of the quietest and smoothest in its segment. There’s adequate pulling power at lower speeds and it can be driven in a higher gear at lower rpms. A light clutch pedal and smooth manual gear shifts make driving easy, especially in city traffic. The power delivery is predictable and gets stronger as it crosses 2,400rpm for straightforward overtaking. Cruising at 80-100kmph is effortless and the engine doesn’t feel strained to keep up with fast-moving traffic. The steering is light and quick which helps when manoeuvring in tight spots, and even self-centres post a U-turn. The suspension setup easily absorbs small bumps and undulations at slow to moderate speeds. Negatives: At higher speeds, there’s some bouncing motion over sharp potholes and undulations. This engine does not have an exciting power output but just about gets the job done. As the speeds increase, one will notice that tyre noises are audible inside the cabin. Overall, the steering does not offer much feel be it any speed that one is travelling at. CNG
4.1The Hyundai i10 Nios gets a 1.2-litre bi-fuel (petrol+CNG) engine, that makes 68bhp and 95.2Nm in CNG mode. This 1.2 Kappa powertrain is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Its CNG fuel capacity is 60 litres (water-equivalent). Key Specifications: Fuel Type CNG Engine 1197 cc Transmission Manual Power 68 bhp Torque 95.2 Nm Read more
Grand i10 Nios Convenience and Technology
4.1Positives: All seats are adequately comfortable and supportive, and covered in fabric upholstery. It has an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and voice recognition. The driving position is aided by the height-adjustable driver seat and tilt adjustment for the steering. It has a 3.5-inch speedometer with a multi-info display and a smart key coupled to push button start-stop functionality. There are charging features such as wireless phone charging, Type-C fast charging port, and a USB port (Type-A). The wide-opening doors are convenient and outward visibility is great through the large windows. There are ample storage spaces such as in the centre console, door-pads, and the cooled glove box. It is offered with cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring and automatic headlamps. Rear occupants have a relaxing backrest angle with adjustable headrests, adequate under-thigh support, air-con vents, and a 12V socket. You get 260 litres of bootspace and the low-loading lip makes loading heavy baggage easier. Negatives: The rear row is slightly tight on shoulder room and seating three passengers will not be comfortable. Tall drivers and co-drivers will find the fixed front seat headrests to be inconvenient. Read more
Grand i10 Nios Exterior and Interior Styling
4Positives: The black grille, LED DRLs with projector headlamps, and 15-inch diamond-cut alloys give it a refreshing stance. The rear LED taillamps and the reflector strip running across the width of the boot (not illuminated) highlight its sharp rear. The side view displays the floating roof-like appearance owing to the blacked-out C-pillar and roof. It has a shark-fin antenna, roof-rails, rear skid plate, and turn indicators on the door mirrors. The paint shades include monotone shades such as Fiery Red, Amazon Grey, Spark Green, Typhoon Silver, Teal Blue, Atlas White, and Titan Grey. The dual-tone colours are Atlas White with Abyss Black roof and Spark Green with Abyss Black roof. It has a black and grey interior theme with a honeycomb pattern on the dashboard, footwell lighting, and grey semi-fabric upholstery. The high quality of plastic and other cabin materials share a premium feel with an impressive fit and finish. Negatives: The Hyundai 'Grand i10 Nios’ overall design language is rather sober and not exciting in any way. The instrument cluster is an unpleasing analogue unit despite the small screen amidst the dials. Read more
Interior & Cargo Layout: The interior of the Tata Sierra is highly futuristic yet functional. The driver is greeted by a multi-screen cockpit that offers crisp graphics and fluid animations. The layout is clean, with minimal physical buttons. Passengers in the back enjoy excellent legroom, and the large panoramic roof adds to the airy feel of the cabin. Boot space is competitive and expandable via 60:40 split rear folding seats.
Value & Verdict: When comparing the features and driving dynamics against its mid-size competitors, the Sierra represents a solid proposition. Its blend of safety, design flair, and rich features makes it one of the most compelling options for buyers wanting a standout vehicle.
