The Mahindra Scorpio N delivers a premium, spacious, and feature-rich three-row SUV experience, with the Sony sound system and large sunroof adding to the package. 4WD Diesel 2.2L
4.1Positives: It is the same engine that powers the XUV700 and is surprisingly effortless to drive with strong pulling power. It is a rear-wheel drive vehicle but is also available in four-wheel drive with either a manual (370Nm) or automatic (400Nm) gearbox. 4XPLOR terrain mode optimises traction for different terrains like snow, sand, mud, or a normal road; gets 4-Low and 4-High gear options too. It has a brake-locking differential ensuring the Scorpio N progresses even in extremely slippery conditions. The six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions get the shift-by-cable technology. The six-speed automatic gearbox is quick and responsive, especially when you are driving in a hurry. The diesel 2WD gets drive modes – Zip, Zap, and Zoom, wherein ‘Zoom’ offers the most engaging throttle response. The steering feels light when driving in the city and weighs up appropriately at highway speeds. The Scorpio N’s suspension setup soaks up most bumps while still offering a relatively flat ride. Negatives: Some diesel engine noise can be heard from this 2.2-litre mHawk unit once it crosses 3,000rpm. Petrol 1197 CC
4.1Positives: This 200bhp-producing petrol engine is very smooth and silent and never feels underpowered, be it in the city or on the highway. The automatic does 0-60kmph and 0-100kmph in only 4.94 and 10.44 seconds, respectively; overtaking is quick too – 20-80kmph in just 5.98 seconds. For everyday commutes, the automatic's gearshifts are smooth when your foot is light on the accelerator pedal. The steering offers very balanced feedback, whether one is driving at slow speeds or out on the highway. The ride quality is quite good as it absorbs almost everything our uneven roads throw at it. Negatives: The petrol automatic is not quite fuel efficient; we got 8.34kmpl in the city and 11.17kmpl on the highway. Scorpio N Convenience and Technology
4Positives: The Scorpio N is available with a sunroof that lights up the cabin. The high seating enhances visibility, the front seats are large and supportive, and the driver's seat is six-way electrically adjustable. It gets a seven-inch instrument cluster and an eight-inch touchscreen with a 12-speaker Sony music player and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The first two rows feel spacious and comfortable, and folding the second and third rows creates about 786 litres of boot space. It is offered with dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, and Alexa-controlled features. It is equipped with a remote start engine, temperature control, and AdrenoX Connect app functionality like geo-fencing. The captain-seat version (six-seater) has an armrest and recline function, which is perfect for those who need to be chauffeured. To get to the third row, one can walk between the second-row seats (six-seater) or use the one-touch tumble to fold one seat. Negatives: The buttons and knobs lack feel as they do not offer much feedback to the user when operated. The second-row seats do not slide back and forth to make more room for the third-row passengers. The third-row front-facing seats have little knee room, the backrest is upright, and hence, best for kids only. The Scorpio N misses important features such as ventilated seats, auto-dimming IRVM, and a 360-degree camera. Read more
Scorpio N Exterior and Interior Styling
4Positives: The Scorpio N’s 18-inch diamond-cut alloys, elevated bonnet, and tall shoulder line give it a strong stance. It comes with double barrel LED headlamps, sleek DRLs, and sequential LED turn indicators that give it a modern look. The characteristic upright dashboard is wrapped in leather and you will find lots of soft-touch points all around. The quality of plastic inside the cabin has a more high-end look instead of the usual sturdy/utilitarian type. The dark brown- and black-coloured cabin, along with the Piano Black trim and brushed metal inserts make it look premium. Negatives: Unlike the floating screen on the XUV700, the Scorpio N gets dated circular dials with a digital multi-information display in between. Read more
Scorpio N Safety
4.1Positives: The Mahindra Scorpio N scored an impressive five-star crash safety rating in the Global NCAP tests. It gets front and rear cameras, six airbags, and a driver drowsiness detector that alerts the driver when drowsy. It safety suite also includes electronic stability control, hill hold control, descent control, and disc brakes on all four wheels. It is offered with a tyre pressure monitoring system to monitor the tyre pressure at all times. Negatives: The Scorpio N misses out on the safety net that a complete suite of ADAS features gives. The layout is clean, with minimal physical buttons. Passengers in the back enjoy excellent legroom, and the large panoramic roof adds to the airy feel of the cabin.
