39.4kWh

3.7

Positives: Powered by a 39.4kWh battery, generating 147.5bhp and 310Nm of torque, it provides rapid acceleration with a 0-100kmph time of 9.18 seconds in Fearless mode. The instant torque delivery gives a smooth, noiseless, and responsive drive in city conditions, and with ESP and traction control, it’s easy to manage even on slippery surfaces. The electric motor's linear power delivery in the ‘D’ mode makes for easy stop-and-go traffic handling. The regenerative braking system in ‘L’ mode mimics one-pedal driving, adding convenience, although it doesn’t bring the car to a complete halt. There are three drive modes, Fun, Fast, and Fearless, which allow users to adjust steering weight and throttle sensitivity, with Fearless being the quickest. Ride quality is impressively comfortable, with the suspension absorbing bumps and rough patches effectively, and maintaining stability even at higher speeds. Negatives: In real-world driving conditions, the range was around 282km in default mode, which is notably less than the claimed 456km range. The steering, although heftier in sportier drive modes, lacks responsiveness, requiring substantial input for quick turn-ins. Its lack of an adjustable brake energy regeneration mode means users can't customise brake regeneration levels, limiting its flexibility. XUV400 Convenience and Technology

3.5

Positives: The electric sunroof and auto-dimming IRVM enhance comfort and convenience, especially for extended drives. The front seats offer ample support, spending the entire day driving wasn’t too tiring, and legroom at the rear is very good. It has wireless charging and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with six speakers and built-in navigation. There’s wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with Bluetooth, USB, and smartwatch connectivity. The keyless entry and start-stop button simplify entry and exit, while the rear parking camera with adaptive guidelines makes reversing easier. The XUV400 has a spacious 378-litre boot that can accommodate a reasonable amount of luggage. Negatives: The rear bench suffers from a heightened floor (battery placement) and hence an awkward raised-knee seating posture. Limited smartphone storage space on the centre console and small, impractical rear-seat pockets hinder usability to an extent. Read more

XUV400 Exterior and Interior Styling

3.5

Positives: The XUV400’s exterior combines copper-accented elements, including copper twin peak logos, roof-rails, and fog lamp surrounds, adding a distinctive and premium touch. Its signature chrome-accented checkered grille and projector headlamps with LED DRLs give it a bold look, while the slightly muscular proportions contribute to the SUV stance. Inside, the XUV400’s dual-tone interior adds a unique EV-themed appeal, contrasting well with the copper accents. The quality of materials, seats, leatherette upholstery, and copper-stitched details on the gear lever add to the SUV’s premium ambience. Negatives: The cabin layout and centre console design, similar to the XUV300’s, feel somewhat dated. Compared to its rivals, the use of several buttons contributes to an unmistakably cluttered look. XUV400 Safety

3.6

Positives: The XUV400 has six airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and rear disc brakes, ensuring reasonable protection for passengers. There are features like rear parking sensors, ESP, speed-sensing door lock, impact-sensing door unlock, and hill hold control. The battery pack is IP67-rated for water and dust resistance, providing additional safety and durability. There are additional features like the front tyre position display and tyre pressure monitoring, which add further safety assurance. Negatives: The Mahindra XUV400 has not received a safety rating yet from any NCAP authority. The lack of ADAS or lane assist features could be seen as a disadvantage compared to other cars that have them. Read more

34.5kWh

3.7

This 34.5kWh battery variant makes an identical 147.5bhp and 310Nm of torque, but has a claimed range of up to 375km per charge, and is available with Fun and Fast drive modes only. Key Specifications: Fuel Type Electric Battery Capacity 34.5 kWh Driving Range 375 to 456 km Charging Time (AC Regular Charger) 0-100 % : 13 hrs 30 mins, 3.3 kW charger Charging Time (AC Fast Charger) 0-100 % : 6 hrs 30 mins, 7.2 kW charger Charging Time (DC Fast Charger) 0-80 % : 50 mins, 50 kW charger Power 148 bhp Torque 310 Nm Read more
