Diesel
3.9Positives: It has a 113bhp/260Nm 1,497cc, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that uses either a six-speed manual or six-speed AMT transmission. There are drive modes – Eco, City and Sport, with the engine being the most responsive in Sport mode. The strong mid-range power delivery post 2,000rpm and the ample torque ensure it does not require frequent gear shifts. The clutch pedal has reasonable weight and the gears engage properly via the lever. It has adequate grunt both at city crawling speeds and out on the highway to be a proper all-rounder. The steering has a good amount of heft and the active response helps the Nexon change directions quickly. The brakes are good, there’s ample grip, hardly leans through corners, and is a great car to cover long distances. Negatives: The gear-shifting action via the gear lever in the diesel Nexon is not smooth. This is not a silent diesel engine and some vibrations can also be felt inside. Whichever drive mode you use, it takes a deep breath before moving ahead. CNG
3.9The Tata Nexon gets a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and CNG bi-fuel engine, making 99bhp and 170Nm torque in CNG mode. It is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox with eco, city and sport driving modes. It has dual-CNG fuel tanks with a total capacity of 60 litres (water equivalent) placed under the boot space. Nexon Convenience and Technology
4Positives: It has an electric sunroof that can be operated with voice commands and an air purifier. It is available with ventilated front seats, height-adjustable driver and co-driver seatbelts, 60:40 split folding rear seats, and rear AC vents. It has a spacious cabin with leatherette upholstered seats that are supportive, including under-thigh support even in the second row. The 360-degree camera is high resolution and the climate control touch panel is responsive while also using toggle switches for smooth usage. The 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster has integrated Google Maps, driver attention assist, and other information such as tyre pressures. It is offered with a 10.25-inch floating infotainment system by Harman and eight JBL speakers including a subwoofer. The infotainment looks and feels upmarket, is responsive, and responds to Alexa commands providing hands-free convenience. There is wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, wireless charging, and connected vehicle technology with the iRA app. This Tata SUV has 382 litres of bootspace that can accommodate around three suitcases (one medium and two large) and a few soft bags to go. Negatives: Although supportive, the seat cushioning on both rows feels slightly hard to be seated on. The horn button placement is too far from one’s thumb to reach without letting go of the steering. The 12V and USB ports are still not easy to access in the front console and placing a phone or wallet there obstructs the movement of the gear lever. Read more
Nexon Exterior and Interior Styling
4Positives: It has LED DRLs and headlamps, dual-tone roof, and stylish diamond-cut alloys with aero inserts. The modern DRLs with bumper-integrated headlights and other styling details lend it a striking visual appearance. There are monotone paints such as Ocean Blue, Pure Grey, Calgary White, Flame Red, and Daytona Grey. The dual-tone colours are Fearless Purple (black roof), Daytona Grey (black or white roof), Flame Red (black or white roof), Pristine White (black roof), and Ocean Blue (white roof). The Fearless Purple paint shade on the Tata Nexon is a bold colour option that vividly stands out on the road. It has an exclusive cabin trim for Fearless Purple, Ocean Blue, Daytona Grey, Flame Red, Pristine White, and Calgary White. It is available in ‘Dark’, which gets an all-black exterior with black alloys, black dashboard, black leatherette seats with blue stitching, and matching blue accents. The Nexon’s two-spoke steering wheel with the illuminated logo looks attractive and so do the air-con touch panel controls. Negatives: The all-black cabin tends to look less spacious than the versions that have lighter-coloured interiors. The quality of the plastic along with the fit and finish lower down in the cabin do not look premium. The piano-black surfaces inside the Nexon’s cabin attract fingerprint smudges almost instantly. Nexon Safety
4Positives: The Tata Nexon has received a five-star safety rating from the BNCAP authorities. Six airbags are standard on this SUV and also has features like a blind-view monitor, auto headlamps, and rain-sensing wipers. There are other features like an auto-dimming IRVM, three-point seatbelts for all seats, and a rear defogger. It also benefits from improved visibility from the 360-degree surround view system with front parking sensors. Negatives: The Tata Nexon is not offered with ADAS features. Read more
Petrol
3.9The 118bhp/170Nm 1,199cc engine is a three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol unit that’s available with a five-speed or six-speed manual, six-speed AMT, and a seven-speed DCA (paddle shifters) gearbox. Key Specifications: Fuel Type Petrol Engine 1199 cc Turbocharged Transmission Manual, Automatic (AMT) & Automatic (DCT) Mileage (User Reported) 15 to 17 kmpl Power 118 bhp Torque 170 Nm Read more
Interior & Cargo Layout: The interior of the Tata Sierra is highly futuristic yet functional. The driver is greeted by a multi-screen cockpit that offers crisp graphics and fluid animations. The layout is clean, with minimal physical buttons. Passengers in the back enjoy excellent legroom, and the large panoramic roof adds to the airy feel of the cabin. Boot space is competitive and expandable via 60:40 split rear folding seats.
Value & Verdict: When comparing the features and driving dynamics against its mid-size competitors, the Sierra represents a solid proposition. Its blend of safety, design flair, and rich features makes it one of the most compelling options for buyers wanting a standout vehicle.
