The Hyundai Creta has premium looks, consistent quality, and a spacious and feature-rich cabin (including blind-spot monitoring, 360-degree camera, and panoramic sunroof). Both of its engine options, the 1.5-litre petrol or diesel, drive well and get smooth automatic and manual gearboxes.
Diesel 1.5L Turbo
4.1Positives: The 1.5-litre turbo-diesel Creta features a four-cylinder CRDi mill that pumps out 114bhp and 250Nm of torque. The transmission duties are handled by a six-speed torque converter (TC) automatic or a six-speed manual. The ARAI-claimed figures of the Creta are 21.8 kmpl, but during CarWale mileage tests through Mumbai's hectic traffic, it returned 16.52kmpl. On highways, it returned an impressive 20.44kmpl average while cruising at 95-100kmph in the sixth gear. Its smooth manual gearbox and light clutch make stop-and-go traffic less straining. It also has a decent bit of low-end torque, which is great for cities, but its ability to cruise on highways is also quite impressive. Negatives: The suspension on wavy highways results in quite a bit of vertical movement. The diesel engine makes a mild clatter, noticeable at low speeds and initial acceleration. Diesel 1493 CC Turbo
4.1Positives: The 114bhp/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine uses either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic with paddle shifters. It gets drive modes such as Normal, Eco, and Sport, and traction control modes like Snow, Mud, and Sand. Although this diesel engine has an overall relaxed power output, the Creta can keep up with its rival SUVs once past 2,000rpm. This diesel engine is so smooth and refined that a majority of people can mistake it for a petrol engine. One cannot feel the gearshifts from the diesel’s six-speed torque converter automatic due to its smoothness The Creta makes for a great long-distance car as it can cruise comfortably at triple-digit speeds all through the day. At highway speeds, the ride is exceedingly flat and stable, and the cabin is mostly quiet with little external noises filtering through. The six gears shift crisply through the well-defined gates of the manual gearbox with a short throw and a reasonably weighted clutch pedal. Negatives: This diesel engine’s power is not thrilling when in the mood for some excitement, but there’s enough to get the job done. There is a lack of appropriate response from this diesel engine when driven below the 2,000rpm mark. The response from the paddle shifters is slow with a gap of almost a second between using the paddles and the gearshifts. At slower speeds, the ride quality is slightly hard, especially when driving over bumpier sections of our roads. The top-end versions can get quite expensive for the overall package one gets with the Creta. Petrol 1497
4.1The 113bhp/143.8Nm, 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine is available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) with paddle shifters. Creta Convenience and Technology
4.1Positives: The modern cabin uses higher-quality materials. Along with a large boot and a long list of features, the Creta makes for good value for money. The SUV gets a voice-enabled panoramic sunroof, rear window sunshades, and an integrated screen for the infotainment and instrument cluster. Other notable features include an electric driver seat, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front-row seats, one Type-C port, and a rear-view monitor. The Creta has excellent outward visibility with a well-laid-out and low-set dashboard, slim A-pillars, and adequately sized windows. The front seats are sufficiently large, well-cushioned, and make it easy to find an ideal driving position. The Creta boasts a Bose sound system with eight speakers, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay compatibility, Home to Car (H2C) with Alexa, and a one-year free subscription to JioSaavn. As for the rear bench, it is spacious with ample leg and shoulder room. As a result, it can seat three adults without a struggle. Interestingly, the second-row bench gets a 60:40 split and a two-step recline. Moreover, this section of the cabin has two Type-C charging ports. Negatives: The short seat base lacks good under-thigh support despite there being so much space in the cabin. Read more
Creta Exterior and Interior Styling
4.1The Creta has evolved into a mature exterior design, which is Hyundai's best yet for the SUV. It is appealing for its aesthetic, simple, and clean lines. Its fascia boasts a black chrome radiator grille between the quad-beam LED headlamps, LED positioning lamps, and DRLs. More styling elements include LED sequential indicators, connecting LED taillamps, and 17-inch diamond-cut alloys. Other exterior features include chrome door handles, front and rear skid plates, and an integrated rear spoiler with a stop lamp. The single exterior paint shades include Robust Emerald Pearl, Abyss Black, Atlas White, Titan Grey, Ranger Khaki, and Fiery Red. There's also a dual-tone option of Atlas White with Abyss Black roof. The Creta gets puddle lamps with welcome function. The interior, including the dashboard, centre console, door pads, and other equipment, is nicely designed and well-put together for a premium feel. What further gives the Creta a modern touch is the huge integrated infotainment touchscreen system and digital instrument cluster. Read more
Creta Safety
4.2Positives: The Creta boasts ADAS functionality with several features like forward collision warning, blind-spot collision warning, and avoidance assist. Other safety features include six airbags, three-point seat belts for all seats, ESC, all-disc brakes, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), and Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC). Moreover, the SUV gets a Surround View Monitor (SVM), TPMS, Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM), and an electric parking brake with auto-hold. Negatives: The Hyundai Creta has not yet been tested by the NCAP or any other agency for its crash safety ratings. Read more
