Petrol
4Positives: This 1.2-litre petrol engine has idle stop-start tech, makes 88.5bhp and 113Nm of torque, and is available with the option of a five-speed manual or five-speed AMT gearbox. The engine has sufficient performance to offer for regular driving situations and seems happiest when you drive with a sense of calm. While the manual version gave us 17.52kmpl in the city and 22.3kmpl on the highway in our tests, the AMT returned 17.34kmpl and 22.23kmpl, respectively. The AMT transmission has smooth gearshifts with none of the usual back-and-forth movements while accelerating, like in other AMTs. The light steering, smooth-shifting manual gearbox with a light clutch pedal, good visibility, and responsive brakes make for effortless city driving. The ride quality at high speeds, unless driven over extremely bumpy roads, is mostly quite comfortable. The cabin is also well insulated, so unless you are doing expressway speeds, you won’t hear much in terms of road noise. Negatives: The Glanza’s ride quality is slightly hard at low speeds. At highway speeds, it does not accelerate as quickly as would want it to, even when you down-shift a gear. If you are in a hurry or if the car is filled with people and baggage, you will need to be patient with the relaxed power delivery. Glanza Convenience and Technology
4Positives: It gets climate control, push-button start, tilt and telescopic steering, rear AC vents and USB port, and electrically retractable ORVMs. The soft front seats offer decent support and are height-adjustable; combined with the steering adjustments, dashboard position and slim A-pillars, they ease outward visibility. It has either a seven- or nine-inch Smart Playcast touchscreen infotainment (the nine-inch system has an Arkamys music player) and is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay-compatible. The rear seat is generously comfortable for two passengers with a nicely angled backrest and lots of under-thigh support. It has auto headlamps, LED fog lamps and taillamps, ORVMs with turn indicators, and UV protection film on the glass. With around 318 litres of boot space, it is not the most spacious in its segment, but it satisfies everyday requirements, especially with the 60:40 split foldable rear bench. The Toyota i-Connect has features like checking vehicle health, find-my-car functionality, and service booking and also supports smartwatch connectivity with voice control. The glove box is reasonably spacious, the cup holders and door pads can truly hold coffee cups and bottles and one’s wallet and charging cables fit inside the front armrest storage. Negatives: This hatchback is not comfortable for three adults sitting in the back seat due to the protruding design of the rear AC vent panel. It is not available with a rear armrest even in the pricier top-end versions. Read more
Glanza Exterior and Interior Styling
3.9Positives: The classy Toyota grille sits between the LED projector headlamps and DRLs and especially looks good above the sporty front bumper with carbon-fibre texture. The dual-tone black-beige theme with glossy black inserts and flat bottom steering wheel lend it an upmarket look. The narrow central air vents are fine to operate and match the design symmetry of the toggle switches for the AC controls. The quality of materials is among the best in its segment, even for sections lower down in the cabin. Negatives: Toyota did not give the Glanza a unique identity inside the cabin since it is not markedly different from the Maruti Baleno. Read more
Glanza Safety
4Positives: It has two airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, vehicle stability control, hill hold, automatic door lock, and ISOFIX child seat anchor as standard equipment. The top-end versions are equipped with a heads-up display, 360-degree view camera, and six airbags. Negatives: The rear bench in the Glanza gets a lap belt for the middle seat instead of a three-point seat belt. This hatchback has not yet been tested for safety ratings by the NCAP agencies. CNG
4The Toyota Glanza CNG version gets a 1.2-litre engine that can run on both petrol and CNG. In CNG mode, it makes 76.4bhp/98.5Nm while the power figures in petrol mode stay the same as the single-fuel version. It is only available with the five-speed manual transmission option. Interior & Cargo Layout: The interior of the Tata Sierra is highly futuristic yet functional. The driver is greeted by a multi-screen cockpit that offers crisp graphics and fluid animations. The layout is clean, with minimal physical buttons. Passengers in the back enjoy excellent legroom, and the large panoramic roof adds to the airy feel of the cabin. Boot space is competitive and expandable via 60:40 split rear folding seats.
Value & Verdict: When comparing the features and driving dynamics against its mid-size competitors, the Sierra represents a solid proposition. Its blend of safety, design flair, and rich features makes it one of the most compelling options for buyers wanting a standout vehicle.
